May The Finest Win
By Jasmine Lee
A total of 128 awards were presented during the American Express Tower Club Wine Awards 2010, a record high in its six-year history.
Blind-tasted and judged by a discerning group of 47 Tower Club Members, American Express card members and wine consultants, these wines stood out amongst the 323 entries in 12 categories submitted. They were further broken down by price tiers.
The Awards is unique as it recognises quality wines that offer most value for money in Singapore. The judging session was held on Saturday, September 12, 2009, moderated by wine consultant Ch’ng Poh Tiong.
C T Ng, general manager of Tower Club Singapore, believed that due recognition is accorded to the winning wines and quality wine distributors, for their efforts in exploring new grounds and opportunities to bring in more exotic top quality wines to consumers.
Four Best of the Best wines were chosen from 28 Gold award winners. The Auntsfield Heritage Pinot Noir 2005 Marlborough from New Zealand emerged as the Champion Wine for the night. Some of the winners:

Gala Dinner
The Awards Gala Dinner saw 126 guests enjoying an evening of fine entertainment provided by compère Chermaine Cho, as well as wine consultant and moderator Ch’ng Poh Tiong, together with contemporary jazz band Moonshine Trio. The cuisine for the evening was prepared by the Tower Club Singapore’s Executive Chef Edward Voon. Luscious wines of Cloudy Bay, Château Beaumont and Château Beychevelle, and the after-dinner cocktail of Mount Gay Rum complemented the banquet. And to end off the affair, specially-flown in Château Beychevelle magnums bearing the official event stamp and autographed by general manager and wine-maker Phillipe Blanc, was given to guests as a commemorative gift for the event.
